1+2 Languages

Language Learning at Seaton

All schools across Scotland follow Education Scotland's 'Language Learning in Scotland: A 1+2 Approach'. This policy aims to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn a modern language from Primary 1 onwards. Additionally, each child should have the opportunity to learn a second modern laguage from Primary 5 onwards.

At Seaton our L2 language is French. All pupils across the school from P1 to P7 participate in weekly French sessions. Our L3 language is Mandarin and is delivered to our P5 classes upwards. We are incredibly lucky to have two native Mandarin teachers come to school each week to lead language lessons. Working in partnership with CISS, who are the Confucius Institute for Scotland's School based at the University of Strathclyde, Mandarn lessons are delivered at various schools across Aberdeen.

Pupil Interpreter Service

At Seaton we are proud to have so many families from all around the world with us. Promting and celebrating diversity is within our ethos and we are always eager to celebrate our pupils and families.

To provide support to our new learners to English and Seaton, pupils were eager to create an Pupil Interpreter Service that can be called upon to say hello and answer any questions that a new pupil or family might have.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a variety of languages spoken across the school and having a friendly face that understands your native language makes a big difference to our new pupils and families.
