Background Information
Brimmond School was formed in 2013 following the merger of two existing primary school communities – Bucksburn Primary and Newhills Primary. Brimmond School is situated in the Newhills area of Bucksburn in Aberdeen, within the Education Authority of Aberdeen City.
From October 2015 the school has been housed in a new building and site at Netherhills Place, Bucksburn, Aberdeen.
Brimmond School and Nursery are part of an Associated Schools Group (ASG) together with Stoneywood and Kingswells Schools. All 3 Primary schools feed into Bucksburn Academy.
The roll at the start of the 2024/25 year is approximately 525 primary and nursery pupils.
Classes are formed in accordance with Scottish Government staffing standards to 16 primary classes. Nursery works in line with the 1140 hours guidance, offering 2.5 days or 5 half days (am or pm). The school provides additional universal and targeted support, matched carefully to individual need, for children who are registered in age appropriate mainstream classes.
A music specialist provides lessons for 2.5 days and a teacher is allocated to teach Health and Wellbeing, including P.E. to all classes, these cover NCCT for class teachers.
The Head Teacher is non-class committed. Two Depute Head Teachers and Principal Teacher are partly class committed and cover for staff absence in addition to their leadership and management responsibilities.
23 teachers, 11 PSAs, 2 Senior Early Years Practitioner, 6 Early Years Practitioners, 2 Early Years Support Workers, Early Years MA, School Administrator, 2 part time School Support Assistants, a janitor, cleaners, a school cook and catering assistants complete Brimmond School staff.
The school has developed strong links with several partners that provide support for staff and pupils. These include Health Visitors, Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapists, School Doctor, School Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Vision Support Teachers, Hearing Support Teachers, English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher, Social Work Support, Fit Like Hubs and Autism Outreach.
