Project Description: After witnessing the engineering feat of broadcasting the lunar landing in 1969, students were prompted to investigate the question of how light and sound travel through space. Through a series of investigations, students developed robust models of the properties of wave functions. After some materials explorations including modular coding and engineering kits called "Makey Makeys" which convert everyday objects into computer terminals, they leveraged these understandings to create a way to collectively communicate. Within teams, students used the design thinking process to develop these ideas and created a variety of solutions to the problem of communicating recess times to the whole grade level. We invite you to look through the website and vote on your favorite designs. In addition to student feedback, we will be using these designs to decide upon the optimal solution.
