AACPS and Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) are joint sponsors of the Early College Access Programs (ECAP), which includes both Dual Credit and Non-Dual Credit programs. ECAP is designed to allow high school students to explore college level coursework in a variety of academic areas.
ECAP ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students must be at least 16 years old* to be approved by the secondary school to participate in ECAP and must demonstrate their academic readiness for specific courses by:
being enrolled in a minimum of two half-credit classes each semester at the high school having senior status with a minimum of 20 credits and in good standing.
maintaining a 2.0 high school GPA.
meeting AACC course prerequisites.
meeting required acceptable performance levels on the College’s English/Reading and/or Math Accuplacer assessment or nationally recognized standardized test such as the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).
This college level coursework can complete the academic day for approved high school students who are progressing toward high school graduation and/or provide the opportunity to study college and career-related subject matter not otherwise available through the traditional AACPS high school curriculum. Students wishing to participate in ECAP must:
complete the Early College Access Program Application (link above)
provide their own transportation.
attend a new student orientation program to become familiar with AACC policies and procedures.
AACC Students can get a transfer scholarship to attend a four year after attending AACC student must have at least a 3.5. Consult with financial aid office at AACC to ensure that they are on the transfer scholarship path and for more financial aid & scholarship information.
The placement test at AACC is used to assess college-level skills in mathematics, English and reading. The computerized placement test (ACCUPLACER) is offered to new students to assist AACC staff in determining course placement. This is not a college admissions test.
After the test has been completed and scored, an advisor will review the results with the student and offer suggestions for appropriate workshops.
There are three types of placement tests:
ACCUPLACER Placement (native English speakers)
ESL Placement (nonnative English speakers)
Arithmetic Placement (Health Sciences and biology students only)
