BASKETBALL STAFF: MEET THE COACHES
Coach Vander Klay is a 1982 Park graduate.
A 1986 Hope College cum laude graduate,
The 1986 Vanderbilt Award Winner,
ALL-MIAA Athlete,
He has taught and coached at The High School since 1986
After 10 years as the JV coach (Four JV Championships), he became the Head Coach at Park in 1995.

Coach Vander Klay has guided the Wyoming varsity basketball teams to
ten Academic All-State teams,
ten conference championships,
six district championships,
a regional championship,
and a Final Four.
32 of 38 teams have been in the top three in the conference.
He has four times been named Regional Coach of the Year
The Detroit News State Coach of the Year in 2004.

• Coach Williams has worked since 2014 with the elementary program and junior high teams before becoming the Varsity Assistant in 2022
Coach Williams has boys in the basketball program in Wyoming and has coached travel teams in the area as well

JV COACH:
Jake Underhill
• Coach Underhill is a 1999 Park Graduate.
• Coach Underhill has been coaching HS basketball, football, and baseball since 2007.
• He has led many of his teams to Conference Championships.
• He is a math teacher at the High School.
JV ASSISTANT COACH:
Jason Bleyerveld
• Coach Bleyerveld is a 1983 Park graduate.
• He has been an assistant coach for Park baseball for 30 years.
• Coach Bleyerveld has assisted on 10 Varsity Conference Championship teams, 6 District, and two State Runner-Up Teams
• He has been with the basketball program since 2005.
FRESHMEN COACH:
Chris Hose
• Coach Hose is the Strength and Conditioning instructor/coach at the HS beginning in 2022 after teaching Health at the JH for 10 years.
• Coach Hose led his first freshmen team to the Conference Championship.
Coach Hose has coached varsity football and is currently the head track coach as well.
• He has coached the 7th grade, freshmen assistant, and also coached before he came to Wyoming in 2012.

8th GRADE HEAD COACH MEMORIUM:
Abbey Czarniecki
Our friend and colleague passed away unexpectedly Nov 20, 2015.
Coach Czarniecki was an excellent teacher and coach. Her contributions to the
kids of Wyoming are countless.
• Coach Czarniecki had been an 8th grade coach 2002-2015.
• She had 8 League Championships and 5 unbeaten teams.
• She was a science teacher in the Junior High School.

Head 78er Coach SCOTT DEYOUNG
Scott has had been in the program since 2005. He has had his three sons work their way through the program and has coaches teams from 3rd grade through 8th grade. He is the Director of Basketball Operations for the Boys Program.

Colin DeYoung
Coach DeYoung is a 2018 Wyoming graduate and championship basketball alumni. He has been coaching since graduation as the Freshmen assistant coach as well as 7th and 8th grade coach.
Monte Parks
Coach Parks is a 2020 Wyoming graduate and championship basketball alumni. He has been coaching since graduationand is the Head 7th Grade Coach.
Jake Newhouse
Coach Skaggs joined WPS IN 2023 and currently is a WHS History Teacher after teaching in Saudi Arabia. He is currently our assistant 7th grade coach.
