Curriculum

The art curriculum at Claypit Hill has been developed using the 2019 Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework Standards in combination with the National Core Arts Standards, the developmental stages of children, and the 8 Studio Habits of Mind.

Grades 3-5 are introduced to the 8 Studio Habits of Mind in order to understand what being a successful contemporary artist looks like. Using these habits, students learn that skill (hand) is only one part of being an artist. A professional artist combines their hand with their heart, mind, and community. In art class, students learn how to combine artistic skill with the ability to try new things, persist through challenges, find creative solutions to artistic problems, imagine, and understand our world and the worlds of others.
