Mission/Vision/Beliefs

Vision:

All Cabrillo Middle School students engage and contribute in meaningful learning opportunities that empower them to take their place in the world. They understand diversity, equity, liberation and worth; giving them a sense of purpose and identification in an ever changing world. Cabrillo Mariners are aware of self and others; they make responsible decisions and understand consequences; they build strong relationships and cultivate employability skills,  and ultimately manage their future and potential through a healthy and happy life lens.  They transition with a sense of belonging, accomplishment and excitement for their future and what lies ahead. They are connected, engaged, independent, creative and contributing members of their community. Their knowledge of the world and their fellow human beings inspires them to advocate for those who do not have a voice.

Mission:

The Mission of Cabrillo’s school counseling program is to provide a data-driven, comprehensive approach that focuses on promoting growth in students’ attitudes, skills, and knowledge. As school counselors we will address the needs and interests of all students as it relates to their academic, social-emotional, and college/career development. We will advocate and empower all students, and cultivate a positive school climate that fosters inclusivity, empathy, and respect for all. We will provide an intentional and purposeful program to achieve successful outcomes at Cabrillo in collaboration with all stakeholders. In order to meet the needs of students, we will promote student learning and achievement, and prepare students with life-long skills to thrive in the 21st century.  We will advocate for equity, access, and success for every student through the implementation and delivery of a Multi-Tier, Multi-domain system of supports.

Background:

We have Master's degrees in School Counseling from state-accredited programs.  We are members of the California School Counselors Association (CASC) and the American School Counselors Association (ASCA). We are professional educators with specialized training in 3 domains: academic, personal/social development and college and career readiness. We are guided by the four components of the ASCA National Model: Define, Manage, Deliver and Assess and evaluate our program and individual goals annually using ASCA Student and Professional Mindsets and Behaviors.

Leadership:

"The essence of leadership is not commanding, but teaching. It is opening people's eyes and minds! It is teaching them new ways to see the world and pointing them to new goals. It is giving them the motivation and discipline to achieve those goals. And it is teaching them to share their own knowledge and teach others." (Tichy, 2004)
