El estudiante maestro demuestra propiedad y corrección en el uso de la comunicación verbal y no verbal. Conoce el valor del lenguaje como herramienta para estimular la expresión oral y escrita, la indagación y la interacción colaborativa dentro y fuera de la sala de clases.

As evidence of this language proficiency, I include the PowerPoint used for the tutoring sections and template used, as well as the text message sent to the student's mother to coordinate the tutoring. This interest to set tutoring sessions for the student arose due to a journal prompt done in class. I noticed that the student needed help with organizing the sentences and including all the parts of a paragraph. This is important for students to learn because it helps them to organize their ideas and write them in a logical order. It also helps to strengthen the arguments and provide detail. During this tutoring sessions not only was the student reinforcing the structure of a paragraph but I also combined it with the process of writing. Here the student brainstormed ideas, created a draft, revised it, corrected it and then publish it as the final result. The writing process is important because it enables a student to improve their writing and correct possible grammatical errors. On the other hand, there is a picture, as I previously mentioned of the message sent to the student's parent. The message was sent in Spanish because my students and their parents first language is Spanish. Nonetheless, the written communication was effective.

I learned that through effective communication skills with the parents there is a chance to develop a healthy parent-teacher relationship. This is important because as teacher and parents we want what's best for the students which is for them to improve and continue to learn. I was able to come to an agreement with the parent as to when to meet with the student to reinforce the observed need. Because of my effective communication skills, we didn't have any misinterpretations and we were able to come to an agreement. In regards to the student, I learned that if I model a behavior first, provide guided practice, and afterwards independent practice the students result will improve. I also saw that including the students interest to the tutoring motivated her to produce more detailed sentences.

In the future I would love to be more involved with my students parents and would definitely be available to tutor any student that needs it. How I would involve the parents and build that relationship would be through providing them with options to establish communication. As a result of these two activities I am a better person and educator because I saw the value in tutoring students and how that could be of positive impact in their learning more specifically their written communication. In addition to this, I understood that effective written communication is the key to develop a healthy and respectful relationship between peers.

Communication is inherent to human nature. We all need to communicate orally, in writing or nonverbally in order to express ourselves. In a classroom, interpersonal and group communication occurs. Whatever the type of conversation, both the teacher and the student must have appropriate interactions so that what is communicated is well received and there is no misunderstanding or confusion. The role of the teacher in a classroom is important because they are the ones who create the space for effective communication to take place. The teacher must have good communication skills because in addition to working with the students, he/she must work with the other teachers, the school principal and, not least, with the parents. Giving space to foster good communication between the speaker and the listener produces a healthy environment for everyone in the school setting.

In 2019, for the EING 3257: "Public Speaking" class I made a speech paying tribute to Louis Zamperini. In this speech I talked about his journey as an Olympic athlete and World War II soldier. It details those aspects that I found admirable such as his strong mentality to persevere, his resilience to drastic conditions and his bravery and courage to forgive others. For this paper I had to search for different biographies about his life and then summarize the most relevant aspects in order to present in detail why I consider him to be a person to admire.

I choose this paper as evidence because through this class I learned about different ways of speaking in front of an audience. Public speaking has different purposes these can be to persuade, inform or educate the listeners. In education teachers use a lot of oral and written communication with students to inform and educate them in order for them to learn. This evidence demonstrates mastery of the competency because through it I was able to communicate to the listeners in that classroom about the life of Louis Zamperini. I had to formulate a writing with clear ideas and sentences so that the listeners would understand why this man was my choice. After formulating my paper, in order to present the work, I was required to speak in a clear manner, pronouncing the words well and in a proper tone so that either the person closest to me or the person farthest from me in the room could hear me. Taking this class and doing this job helped me improve my self-confidence and confidence to speak in front of people and improved my ability to communicate using appropriate language. This experience benefits my development as a future teacher because the confidence to speak in front of others is important for students to take my position as a leader seriously. In addition, having appropriate language allows the message the teacher gives to students and others in the school environment to be understood.

La comunicación en la educación es sumamente importante porque te permite hacer un intercambio de conocimiento, expandir tu vocabulario y te permite interactuar con diferentes culturas. En las relaciones educativas es importante que la comunicación exista y que sea de forma efectiva siendo bidireccional (emisor-receptor, receptor-emisor) y recordando que no únicamente un intercambio de información. En la comunicación implica también el lenguaje corporal, los gestos que uno hace, muchas veces transmite más que lo que uno dice verbalmente.

La presentación que utilizó como evidencia fue realizada en grupo para el curso de EDPE 3013: La enseñanza de la lengua materna en la escuela elemental con la profesora Laura M. Santiago Diaz. Al final del semestre 2018 (agosto- diciembre) teníamos que presentar unos capítulos de G. Tompkins y a mi grupo le tocó el capítulo que trata sobre la Poesía. Para esta presentación tuvimos que realizarla estilo “clase demostrativa” con actividades de acuerdo a los tipos de poesía que se encontraban en el capítulo.

Para esta presentación primero se realizó una actividad “rompe hielo” donde se trajo una bola inflable y se pasaría a diferentes estudiantes. La misma tenía unos números pegados y donde tocara el dedo pulgar, las integrantes de mi grupo y yo le leíamos la pregunta correspondiente a ese número. Luego se hicieron actividades de adivinanzas, creación y redacción de poemas a medida que se presentaba el contenido del capítulo. Cada una de las actividades se realizó exitosamente y todos los estudiantes participaron y entendieron las instrucciones. También cuando se hicieron las actividades de adivinanza y rompe hielo fue un momento donde se permitió la comunicación abiertamente entre los estudiantes y mis compañeras de presentación junto conmigo. Nuestro lenguaje corporal ayudó al éxito de nuestra presentación ya que demostramos seguridad y entusiasmo por el contenido que a su vez ayudaba a los estudiantes mantenerse interesados, lo cual es parte de lo que hace importante tener una comunicación efectiva dentro de un salón de clases.

La poesía es un gran ejemplo para lo que es la comunicación ya que a través de ella el autor comunica algún sentimiento, recuerdo que le ocasiona al lector algún tipo de emoción. Crear poesía te expande el vocabulario y al leer y usar diferentes tonos de voz y gestos, en la poesía, esta cobra vida y le da forma a la manera en que el oidor de aquella poesía lo interprete. La comunicación para los maestros es igual, durante un salón de clases la manera en la que cada uno se proyecte sea en el tono de voz o su lenguaje corporal creará alguna reacción de parte de los estudiantes sea positiva o negativamente.
