On my journey towards becoming a teacher I realized that I care very much about the participation of my students. When I see a student that is perhaps shy, or doesn't try or want to participate I try to encourage them to do so. The way I do it is by providing positive feedback and I validate their attempt to participate. I also tell the rest of the students not to make inappropriate comments to their classmates. Doing this allowed me to, have the students that at first wouldn't participate to then wanting to do so. However, positive feedback is not the only thing a teacher can do; teacher's must create and enable learning environments. To evidence this competency I include a set of pictures from two different learning activities and their respective lesson plans. The first set of pictures (with the green background) are from an integrated activity Teacher Dermaris and I did at the end of the English Week. On this day we integrated my 6th graders and teacher Dermaris' 5th graders for a dictionary competition. There were 5 teams and each team had student's from both grades. We showed a word to the students, the first one that found it had to share a sentence with the word. For this activity we were working with vocabulary and using it in context as well as team work. The second set of pictures (with the white background) are from a class I gave to the students were I divided the students in groups of two. They had to read and answer questions from a chapter of a novel read in class called "Ghostville Elementary: Stage Fright". The groupings were made based on their language proficiency levels.

I learned from learning activities that students can learn from each other to be more patient with one another, it gives them a sense of achievement when they reach a common goal, and a chance to speak with each other in the English language. In addition to that, they have fun during the process. Some of the hurdles during both activities was trying to remind the students who were more proficient not to do all the work themselves but to give their classmates the opportunity to work as well. In future experiences I would love to incorporate such activities like group work and group activities.

Creating learning environments through activities that promote student participation and interaction made me a better educator. Through these activities a was able to motivate my students to participate, create meaningful learning experiences, and have the students with different language skills to help each other. Sometimes when doing activities like this one, throughout my practicum experience I had students that would complain about their selected partner. Eventually, I was able explain to them that there are responsibilities in life were you have to maintain respectful and disciplined even if the partner you have to work with isn't necessarily the one you preferred. This impacted the students in a positive way because as the months went by, the students became more tolerant and respectful towards each other.

Having the right learning environment fosters the development of students' competencies and enriches learning. This is provided by the teacher in order to make students feel comfortable, motivated and have an active role within the classroom. It is not limited to the physical space where learning occurs but includes all those materials, dynamics and the provision of a positive environment that allow learning to take place. Providing these elements helps the classroom environment to be adequate, allowing a good relationship to be established between the students themselves, the teacher and their classmates. Relating the learning environment with elements that allow the student to perceive teaching as fun and not as an obligation can make them interested in continuing to learn.

Before being professionals, every teacher was once a student. I think we can all witness those classes that we really enjoyed going to learn as well as those classes in which the motivation was not the same. We must give ourselves the opportunity to learn about those experiences and about the knowledge of strategies that can help us in the professional field. For this we must have the motivation and willingness to make the effort to put into practice different pedagogical methods that benefit the learning environment. Doing so allows that process to be fluid and our students to have meaningful experiences in their learning process.

During the EING 4007: Materials Preparation Workshop class (August-December 2020) I created a board game called "PSP: Parst of Speech Party". The intent of the game is for students to practice verbs and adjectives which are part of a sentence. The game is designed for 4 to 8 students to participate, and an additional student will keep track of each participant's points. This work was done to go through the experience of creating a board game with an educational purpose specific to the area of specialization.

I use this evidence for this competition, since a learning environment is about positive social interactions and fostering an environment where through play, fun, and motivation students learn. Students like to play and even more so if they see it as a competition to be won. Using this game encourages healthy interaction among peers and fun while reinforcing learned skills. After carrying out this project I understood how the teacher and the students can benefit from the game as an educational tool. The board game created was an adaptation similar to the game of Monopoly. The benefit a teacher has in the classroom with games is that they can adapt or create any board game or other dynamic to incorporate into their classroom. Having said that, I use this evidence, as I believe it demonstrates mastery of what it is to have a classroom where a learning environment is fostered.

El ambiente de aprendizaje son aquellos lugares donde los estudiantes aprenden, por lo tanto, un salón de clases es uno de esos lugares donde ocurre el aprendizaje en los estudiantes. La importancia de crear ambientes adecuados para los niños ayuda a que ellos disfruten mejor el aprender. Dentro de los ambientes educativos aspectos como las interacciones sociales, las condiciones del salón, y la organización del tiempo son importantes. El ambiente es cambiante y se debe de ajustar a las necesidades de los estudiantes.

Parte de lo que forma el ambiente son las interacciones sociales que se dan entre el maestro y el estudiante, estas interacciones son importantes porque las palabras que utilizan pueden llegar a tener un impacto significativo en el estudiante. Quiere decir que, hay que crear un ambiente de motivación, creando expectativas a los estudiantes, un ambiente de tal forma abre paso a las interacciones y a la participación de estudiantes en el salón de clases.

Como evidencia coloco unas fotos del salón de 3er grado del Colegio Zaenid ubicado en Bayamón donde fui a realizar una experiencia de campo para el curso de EDFU 3012: Fundamentos de la Psicología Educativa con la profesora Mirla Méndez Solano. Tales fotos son un ejemplo de lo que es ambientalizar un salón, la maestra decoró el salón con varios colores lo que lo hace visualmente atractivo, tiene un área de libros, área de materiales y en las paredes tiene imágenes pertinentes a la clase. También en aquel salón observé como la maestra suele pegar los trabajos de los estudiantes en una pared y esto es algo que puede validar el esfuerzo de los estudiantes.

Aplicar los conocimientos de creación de ambiente y motivación al estudiante es sumamente importante para mí ya que, a base de mi experiencia con compañeros de clase y situaciones que he presenciado en experiencias de campo, muchos estudiantes bilingües no se atreven a hablar inglés por diferentes razones. Es mi deber ambientalizar el salón de clases de tal forma que el estudiante que se encuentre allí no se sienta intimidado sino todo lo contrario, con toda la comodidad de poder expresarse en su segundo idioma, sea o no fluido en el inglés. Mantener la motivación en el salón de clases, el respeto hacia los demás y dar retroalimentación hacia los estudiantes es de igual importancia ya que esto puede ayudar a que, más allá de la comodidad en participar, ellos puedan sentirse de alguna forma motivados en ir a la clase y querer aprender. Si los maestros demuestran interés por el estudiante y les motiva a dar lo máximo de su desempeño esto puede ocasionar que los mismos estudiantes también quieran dar su máximo desempeño porque tienen a alguien que los impulsa hacerlo.
