Helen grew up near Seattle, WA and attended University of Washington for my undergraduate education. During that time, I worked with Dr. Ferric Fang, researching the effect of antimicrobial nitric oxide on expression of various Staphylococcus aureus virulence factors. After completing my B.S. in microbiology in 2017, I moved to Ann Arbor to start my Ph.D. at University of Michigan, where I joined Beth's lab in 2018. My research interests include the immune response to post-influenza bacterial pneumonia and the effect of fibrosis on susceptibility to bacterial pneumonia.
When I'm not at my lab bench, you can find me reading at a cafe, rock-climbing, trail-running, or eating anything put in front of me!
Congrats to Helen for passing her prelims with a full pass!
