DUTIES OF THE SSR
5-10 core lectures to be presented yearly
SSR should contact the mentor 2 weeks before the session for advice on topic development and reference selection
Choose format for session. While a PowerPoint presentation is suggested, it is not obligatory. Other formats might include round-table discussions, guest speakers, quizzes, debates
Review of core nephrology literature is a goal of these sessions (e.g. references do not have to be entirely recent). A key goal of the sessions is to answer a question: what is the evidence base for current practice
For Fluid & Electrolyte Sessions, residents will bring cases of fluid and electrolyte/acid base disorders. It is recommended residents keep track of cases covered to ensure adequate case mix, covering abnormalities in sodium, potassium, calcium/magnesium homeostasis, as well as acidosis and alkalosis are covered over two years
EVALUATION
Trainees will receive feedback on presentation skills via a feedback form to be completed by attendees. These are reviewed at quarterly reviews with the program director.
