Due to the integral learning experience that the General Internal Medicine (GIM) rotation provides, we have implemented a minimum attendance while on our service effective March 01, 2019. As continuity of care and day to day teaching is essential, we will be authorizing a MAXIMUM OF FIVE DAYS OFF PER BLOCK (combined conference days, personal days, study days, and stat days in lieu). This will NOT include mandatory program related education events such as academic half days and longitudinal clinics. Leave requests are approved on a first-come/first-service basis and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This leave policy has been reviewed by PARA and approved for distribution.
When a Resident submits a request for vacation, the office of the Resident PTP reserves the right for approval or disapproval of the request and will respond in writing within two (2) weeks.
ALL residents requesting a day(s) off their assigned rotation for any given reason (stat or personal day, conference leave, etc), MUST ensure this form is completed and duly signed by their preceptor affected by their absence and forward back to the attention of Carrie Hlady, GIM Program Coordinator.
STAT days worked and being taken in lieu MUST be taken on the same rotation that the stat was worked. This should be arranged at least 14 days in advance of the stat day taken.
Please note that it is the resident’s responsibility to notify their attending physician and the team regarding days that they will be away. For any further questions regarding leaves or absences, please contact Carrie Hlady, GIM Program Coordinator at (780) 492‐6280 or (carrie.hlady@ualberta.ca).
