Other tips!
- Line the inside of your backpack with a trash compactor bag. These are completely waterproof and much more durable that a standard trash bag.
- It is essential that you pack your own bag to ensure that you know where everything is packed.
- Don’t pack anything that will take a long time to dry once wet (Cotton!). It is inevitable that at some point in your backpacking career you and your gear will be wet. The faster your gear dries, the happier you will be!
- Socks are an essential piece of gear. Do not skimp out and buy cheap socks! If you invest in a quality pair of socks (I recommend Darn Tough merino socks) they will last a long time and keep your feet happy and blister-free.
Boots
- For this trip a pair of running shoes or trail runners is acceptable but for longer trips you will want to go to a boot fitter at REI or an equivalent store.
