Help!

New website, new security model!  Are you signed in?  If you are, you should see "Members" and "Signups" and "Roster" near the top of the menu.   (If you aren't, look for the tiny "Sign In" link way at the bottom of the page.)
If you're having difficulty with the new website, you can (for now) switch back to the old one here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE ARE THE MEMBERS ONLY PAGES LIKE ROSTER, SIGNUPS, ETC?
You need to sign in.  If you are signed in, the menu will contain things like "Members" and "Signups" and "Roster".  If not, you should see a link "Sign in" at the bottom of this page.  Use that.

HOW DO I SIGN IN?
You need a Google Account to sign in. You can set one up using any email address,it doesn't have to be a gmail address.  Here's how.  Chances are you already have one, especially if you're a gmail user.
But this is key: the email address has to be the same one we use to send you troop email.  That is, it has to be part of the troop googlegroup. That's our list of people we trust.

BUT I ALREADY GET EMAIL FROM THE TROOP.
Yes, but you're probably receiving it at an old email address that's not associated with your google account. Maybe you originally gave us your work email, or @comcast.net or something like that?  Try joining the troop googlegroup again, using the email address that's associated with your google account.

HOW DO I JOIN THE TROOP GOOGLEGROUP?
Just send an email to troop186.seattle@gmail.com and we'll get you added to that!

STILL CONFUSED.
Here, let me make that worse:
Think of the troop email list as a list of people we know and trust, though we only know them by their email address.  That's our troop googlegroup.
We use that list of trusted people to control access to the members-only parts of the troop website.
For example, Scotty McScout has an email address "scotty@mcscoutfamily.net" because his mom is a huge nerd that set up her own email domain.  Cool!
Scotty lets the troop registrar know his email address, and we add it to the troop googlegroup.  Now Scotty gets email about outings and meetings, great!
Scotty wants to sign up for an outing, so he goes to the troop website.  We don't let just anybody into the members area, though, so he has to identify himself.
We use Google's tools to handle that gatekeeping.  Scotty signs in using his email address, the website checks to see if it's in the troop googlegroup.  If it's not, he can't come in.
BUT!  Anybody could claim to be "scotty@mcscoutfamily.net" while signing in to the website - we need a password too,  This is where the Google Account thing comes in.
Scotty sets up a Google Account that lets him associate a password with his email address for purposes of identifying himself to the troop website (and a bazillion other google-backed internet things).
Scotty signs up and has an awesome time in the woods with his buddies in the troop.  Win!

STILL STILL CONFUSED.  I AM SIGNED IN TO GOOGLE BUT STILL CAN'T SEE THE MEMBERS STUFF.
I'll bet you juggle multiple email addresses and multiple Google Accounts.  Figure out which one is actually in the troop googlegroup (go look at an old email from the troop, see who it was sent to) and use that one.
Again, you can only sign in if the email address for your Google Account is part of the Troop 186 googlegroup. If you are getting troop email, then you are in the googlegroup. You can do this!

STILL3 CONFUSED.  I AM SIGNED IN TO GOOGLE BUT IT'S STILL ASKING FOR MY PASSWORD.
Who are we to question the wisdom of our Google overlords?  Give the password for your google account and it should be OK.  It's not a bad thing to re-authenticate once in a while, I suppose.

WHY DO I HAVE TO REQUEST ACCESS TO A PAGE?
If you find yourself "requesting access" to stuff, somebody probably sent you a link to a members only page and you aren't signed in.  We won't grant access to individual pages, you just need to get signed in.
