** Kitayama Cedars 北山杉

北山杉（きたやますぎ）は日本の近畿地方、京都市北部から産する杉をいう。 Cedars ( long tall conifer trees ) produced in the northern part of Kyoto are called Kitayama Cedars. These areas surrounded by forest abundant in cedar trees such as Takagamine, Takao, Kumogahata are considered Kitayama area zone ( Home of Kitayama Sugi ) are the central part of forestry of this kind. Charactirized by the unique appearance of graceful hillside of mountains, this landscape of north has been attracting the eyes of visitors. Out of those areas the village of Nakagawa is knows as the birthplace of this much-renowned traditional forest industry of Kyoto. This cultivating method Kitayama Cedars creates an art of its own.
