Note: Please keep a vocab page in your math journal. Write each of the vocab words down and a definition of them as we proceed through the activities.
Chapter 0: Geometric Art
(0.1): Vocab: symmetry, bilateral symmetry, reflectional symmetry, line of symmetry, bilateral symmetry, rotational symmetry
Activity: Have students go outside in groups and have them find an objects that represent each kind of symmetry.
(0.2): Vocab: compass, straightedge, ruler, protractor
Activity: Have students complete both the line designs on the bottom of page 7. Students could also choose any of the 3 from number 1 on page 8. Describe the types of symmetry your drawings have.
(0.3): Activity: #1 pg. 12: Create a single six-petal daisy design and color or shade it so that it has rotational symmetry but not reflectional.
Chapter 3: Constructions
December 2:
3.1 page 136: 1, 2,4,5, 10, 12
3.2 page 140: 1-6, 7, 8, 13, 14
December 3
3.3 page 143: 1-5
3.4 page 148: Do 6-9 but actually construct the angles using a compass and a straight edge
How can you construct a 60 degree angle using only a compass and straight edge?
How can you construct a 90 degree angle using only a compass and straight edge?
December 5:
3.5 page 150: 2,6,8,9
December 9:
Construction Journal Part One
December 11:
3.6 1-10
December 16:
Investigation 3.7: Find the 4 points of concurrency for each of the three triangles. This means you should have 4 different sets of the set of three triangles. Find the orthocenter for all 3, the circumcenter for all 3, the incenter for all 3, and the centroid for all 3. Check the book for how to find them. 3.7 for orthocenter, circumcenter, and incenter, 3.8 for centroid.
