We use a web based program called Reading Eggs to support reading skills. Students may access this website using the link above or visit http://www.readingeggs.com. The username is fmckinley@stvs.org and the password is firstgrade. Students have been using this program all year and know how to navigate the site once they get signed in. We recommend 30 minutes of practice per week day.

For writing students will write about their favorite pet or stuffed animal. Writing should include who, did what, where, when and why. First draft can be completed on any writing paper, final copy with a colored picture should be entered into their writing journal. Upload completed journal entry using the link below or send a picture to fmckinley@stvs.us on Wednesday, April 22nd.

Spelling City has offered schools premium memberships so we now have access to a lot of great online content to practice spelling and take a test. Using the link above your student will need to log in to their account. Username is student number, first name (or nickname Allie and Emmy) and first initial of last name, for example 7makaiof. Password is first name and first initial of last name, for example; makaiof. Please let us know if you have any issues logging in. Assignment should be completed by Friday, April 24th.

Use the link above to access the Reading and Mapping page for sound picture "ie", such as pie, cried or sky. For the reading portion, have your student segment and blend each word. To segment they say each sound picture for example p ie with a space between each sound. To blend the word they run their finger under each sound and say the word, p ie = pie. It is important that students use the sound picture for the letters not the name of the letter. If they use the name of the letters, pie, would sound something like 'pea I E'. We always gently remind them to use the sound the letters (sound picture) represent, not the name of the letter.

Use the link above to access the Sound Sorting page. On this page students will sort the different variations of the sound picture "ie". Students are familiar with the page and should be able to complete it. If more assistance is needed please contact Mrs. McKinley fmckinley@stvs.us or Mrs. Norris knorris@stvs.us.

Reading Comprehension

Students should complete the Reading Comprehension worksheet based on a book or story of their choice which they have read this week. Students should write about what happens in the beginning, middle and end. Upload completed worksheet using the link below or send a picture to fmckinley@stvs.us on Friday, April 24th.

Students should review and practice sight words. We are reviewing the first 300 sight words. Please use the link above to view the sight words or use the pink packet in their homework folder. On Wednesday April 22nd a Parent should test their students on this weeks sight words and submit how many words out of the 25 the student was able to read (upload test results here).

Math Flash

Like the Flash. How many jumping jacks can you do in a minute? Can you tie your shoe laces in under a minute? Can you put on your socks and shoes in less than a minute? How high can you count in numbers in less than a minute? What are some other things you can do in less than a minute? Record your answers on paper, a whiteboard or using this form by Monday, April 20th.

Students should practice set W math facts using the link above. On Thursday, April 23rd a parent should give their student a 3 minute timed test on Math Fact Set W (upload completed test here).

We use a web based program called Math Seeds to support math skills. Students may access this website using the link above or visit www.mathseeds.com. The username is fmckinley@stvs.org and the password is firstgrade. Students have been using this program all year and know how to navigate the site once they get signed in. We recommend 30 minutes of practice per week day.

The link above is for an excellent addition and subtraction trainer. The program will keep repeating math facts until students master them.

Religion

Students will need to access the Sadlier website using the link above. Student access is username: SadlierStudent and the password is: ReadytoLearn! Navigate to the book titled "We Believe Catholic Indentity School Edition 1st Grade". In this book, students should read through Chapter 12 "The Church Serves". On Friday, April 24th students should take the Chapter 12 test (upload completed test page 154 here).
