Week 2 March 23 - 27th

Wishing Hannah a Happy Birthday on March 28!

We love you and miss you! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Read to self or read aloud for a minimum of 15 minutes per day, record reading in March reading log.

We use a web based program called Reading Eggs to support reading skills. Students may access this website using the link above or visit http://www.readingeggs.com. The username is fmckinley@stvs.org and the password is firstgrade. Students have been using this program all year and know how to navigate the site once they get signed in. We recommend 30 minutes of practice per week day.

Students need to complete 1 reading comprehension worksheet based on a story that they have read. Copies of the worksheet were sent home and can also be accessed by clicking on the link above. Please keep the completed worksheets in their homework folder and return to school when we resume normal classes.

For writing students will write about an Octopus. The worksheet was sent home and can also be accessed using the link above. After completing the worksheet students should write a final copy with a colored picture in their writing journal.

This weeks spelling words were sent home and can also be accessed above. Students should practice their spelling words and complete 10 spelling sentences on the paper that was sent home or regular notebook paper.

Use the link above for Spelling City to practice spelling words and play interactive games.

Use the link above to access the Reading and Mapping page for sound picture "oo", such as blue, flew or flu. Have your student segment and blend each word. To segment they say each sound picture for example b l ue with a space between each sound. To blend the word they run their finger under each sound and say the word. If they use a different sound picture such as "o-e" as in goat, just remind them that the sound picture they are working on is "oo".

Use the link above to access the Sound Sorting page. On this page students will sort the different variations of the sound picture "oo". Students are familiar with the page and should be able to complete it. If more assistance is needed please contact Mrs. McKinley fmckinley@stvs.us or Mrs. Norris knorris@stvs.us.

Students should review and practice sight words. We are reviewing the first 300 sight words. Please use the link above to view the sight words or use the pink packet in their homework folder.

Students should practice set T math facts and complete the work book page. These items were sent home and can also be accessed using the link above.

We use a web based program called Math Seeds to support math skills. Students may access this website using the link above or visit www.mathseeds.com. The username is fmckinley@stvs.org and the password is firstgrade. Students have been using this program all year and know how to navigate the site once they get signed in. We recommend 30 minutes of practice per week day.

The link above is for an excellent addition and subtraction trainer. The program will keep repeating math facts until students master them.

Please work on the stations of the cross packet that was sent home and continue practicing 1st grade prayers. Prayers can be found using the link above.

For Science, students should work on creating a weather book to track the weather every day. Students keep the weather book, in their homework folder. We will share the books in class when we return to school. Remember when working on this assignment to have fun, but do good quality work.

For Social Studies we are providing a link above to "What is a Map?". With an information page and a question and answer page. After reading the first page, guide your student through answering the questions on the second page. Last have your student work on drawing a detailed map of their bedroom or house. Put the finished map into your students homework folder. We will share the maps in class when we return to school. Extra challenge: Students can use a cardboard box or shoe box to create a model of their room or house. Send pictures of these creations to my email, fmckinley@stvs.us.
