Production Sequence

It is important to note that sounds may be practiced at various levels. Generally, students will move from being able to say sounds in isolation to words to sentences to conversation:

Isolation - sound is practiced by itself (e.g., ssssss).

Words - sound is practiced at the beginning, middle, or end of words (e.g., soup, medicine, class ).

Sentences - sound is practiced in sentences (e.g., Sally ate soup on Saturday).

Conversation - sound is practiced during conversation.

Levels are hierarchichal in terms of difficulty. Your child should become proficient at saying his/her target sound at one level before moving onto the next. You will want to follow your SLP's guidance in terms of what level your child should currently be practicing their sound(s).
