Welcome to Mr. Scott's AP Biology Site
AP Biology is designed to be a year long course that is taken by students who have successfully completed biology and chemistry.
The AP Biology coursework is equivalent to a two-semester college introductory biology course that focuses on advanced inquiry and reasoning skills. The AP Biology curriculum differs from the standards based high school biology course in several ways: first, there is a wider range and greater depth of knowledge covered in each topic. Secondly, students work cooperatively on inquiry based labs and lastly students are required to spend considerable time and effort outside of the classroom. The AP Biology textbook is based on college level reading and the labs in AP Biology are equivalent to college based labs. AP Biology is a course that aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology. This course is designed to prepare students for the Biology College Board Advanced Placement Exam and provide a foundation that will necessary in upper college level courses.
