Accelerated Biology I (length of course: full year, five periods a week): This course is designed for the accelerated ninth grade student who successfully completed Earth Science in the eighth grade and who wishes to take Biology a year early for the purpose of taking additional science courses while in high school. This course is based on the Pennsylvanian Academic Standards for Science and Technology and Environment and Ecology. The areas of emphasis will include cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell growth and division, genetics, evolution, zoology, and ecology. Laboratory safety and scientific method will be emphasized throughout the course. Students in this course will take the Keystone Biology Exam in May during the fourth nine weeks.
