6 months before the end of your Fee Paying Period (FPP) you will be required to complete a submission review. More information about the submission review process is available in the CoP: Submission Review | Research Services | The University of Sheffield
On PROMPT there are 2 milestones relating to this process; the 'Submission Review Declaration' and the 'Submission Review Milestone Form', please complete the relevant sections on each form before the deadline. You will also need to complete a separate Submission Review Form (see below), which will be assessed by your supervisor.
Once assessed, your supervisor will need to complete the 'recommended outcome' on PROMPT and upload the completed Submission Review Form before forwarding it to myself (elizabeth.turner@sheffield.ac.uk). It will then be sent to the PGR Director for approval.
If in the form it is suggested that you will need to continue active research beyond the end of the FPP, then a second form will be required at 3 months prior to the end of FPP, called 'Application to undertake core research into the Submission Pending Period' (see below). If this is the case another milestone will be added to PROMPT where this form can be uploaded.
The aim in the implementation of these processes is to ensure that students are in a position to submit their theses during their fee paying period, which is generally the period that they are funded for. Therefore, the purpose of this is to ensure that students are in a sound financial position during the final stages of their PhDs, and only progress to the unfunded Submission Pending Period when absolutely necessary. Nevertheless, be assured that it is our priority to ensure that students submit viable theses, and the reviews of the SR related forms will enable colleagues to assess the merits of each case, and consider what is in the best interest of our students.
