Moving furniture and equipment
Waste Disposal
Recycling ink cartridges
You can use the Internal Mail to send ink/toner cartridges to the University's central recycling facility, more information may be found here.
Alternatively, if you only have a small number of cartridges the porters can collect these for recycling - collections can be organised using EFM Self Service (in MUSE) or by contacting the Estates Help Desk (extension 29000).
Please do not bring cartridges to the Electronics workshop.
Disposal of Chemical Waste
All chemicals should be accompanied by a safety sheet, COSHH form and be clearly labelled.
The collection and disposal of solvents, chemicals and other hazardous waste is managed corporately by the Environment Officer. Collections are made by a specialist contractor approximately every six weeks – the collection dates are booked in advance.
You should book collections of waste as required using the booking sheet at least eight days before a scheduled collection. Forms must be e-mailed to the Environment Officer; no additions can be made to the list once it has been sent.
Waste must be stored in line with legislation prior to collection for disposal. If you need assistance you can contact your Departmental Safety Officer, Health & Safety on 26100 or the Environment Officer on 29083.

Disposal of Electrical Equipment
If you are disposing of an item that you have recently replaced or purchased after August 2005 then the producer or supplier are responsible for the collection and disposal of the equipment - please refer to the guidance for further details.
If you have more than one item to dispose of please ensure that they are assembled in one location. Please do not request a collection of WEEE until the items are ready to be collected. Items should be clearly identified / marked for collection.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) can no longer be disposed of with our general waste. Legislation requires the University to separate WEEE from other waste and ensure that it is re-used, recycled or recovered where possible.
A corporate system has been set up for the disposal of computers, PC peripherals and historic WEEE. Departments must arrange for the disposal of other WEEE themselves. A flowchart and guidance have been developed to help you identify the appropriate disposal route for any WEEE that you may have.
You can book a collection using the on-line booking form in EFM Self Service (find this in MUSE).
If you are disposing of lab equipment or equipment from workshops you now need to complete and upload a decontamination certificate when you book your collection. Click here to download a copy of the decontamination certificate here.
