Coach Detrick recommends that a family considers the following before proceeding with the process:
1. Review the components of the athletic performance test. Athletes that do not match or exceed the minimum requirements, may not qualify to be on the team.
2. Complete the "Parental Permission" form (page 10) and get this signed by the athletic director. This form can be downloaded http://www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/pe/documents/scrivised2005.pdf or picked up at the athletic director's office.
3. Complete attachment D & E "Developmental Maturity Form." Complete the top portion, the bottom of this form will need to be signed by the school medical director. Return this form to the Athletic Director's office. (All students who are to be screened for the program must first obtain parental permission and then start with the school physician. Athletic performance testing may be done only after the school physician gives Selection/Classification approval.)
4. Make an appointment with the athletic director to set up a time for the athletic performance test. Page 8 and 15 should be printed out and the name of the athlete should be filled in ahead of time.
5. Ask the coach to complete attachment G "Coach's Sport Skill Evaluation."
Since 54 girls have signed up for tryouts, (a minimum of 12 girls are needed for every match) cuts are likely. Athletes trying out for the first time are encouraged to review the instructional videos and information provided on this web site to become familiar with USTA rules of tennis and to become familiar with proper technique.
This process is only required for middle school students.
