COLONIE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST CONCUSSION AWARENESS SEMINAR FEATURING RAY
CIANCAGLINI OF THE SECOND IMPACT
WHO: Colonie Central High School, organized by Athletic Trainer Aimee Brunelle and Director of
Athletics Joe Guardino, is hosting a session at the High School, inviting parents and students, as well
as South Colonie district faculty and staff.
WHAT: Colonie Central High School will be hosting a concussion education and awareness
presentation featuring Ray Ciancaglini of The Second Impact. The presentation will focus on the
importance of properly reporting any symptoms of a brain injury/concussion to your athletic
trainer, coach, and/or other appropriate medical personnel and following the appropriate
management recommendations, including a progressive return-to-play and return-to-learn once
the symptoms have been resolved.
WHEN: Thursday, November 3 at 2:30pm
WHERE: Colonie Central High School: High School auditorium
WHY: Ray is a former boxer who now suffers from Dementia Pugilistica (a.k.a. CTE) and Parkinson ’s
syndrome as a result of mismanaging brain injuries early in his career. He helps to reinforce the
safety messages that are strongly promoted by organizations like NYSATA and the Brain Injury
Association of NYS (BIANYS) through personal experience and a passion for finding a happy balance
between tough, competitive sports participation and making smart decisions to keep yourself safe
and healthy for both the short- and long-term. One of his favorite taglines is, “The game you sit out
today could be the career (and life!) you save tomorrow!” http://thesecondimpact.com/
