Garage Band

How to create a podcast with images using Garageband

  • Open Garageband – Click on the guitar icon on your dock or in your Applications folder. If you see a welcome window, close it.

  • Click New Project and choose Podcast.

  • Give your project a name using instructions given by your teacher. Then click the little arrow next to the file name to expand the save dialog box.

  • Save your project in the Documents folder in a folder specified by your teacher.

  • You are now ready to create a podcast! First record your narration. Click on “male voice” or “female voice” so that it is highlighted blue.

  • Use the round red record button and gray square stop button to record each section of your podcast separately.

  • If you make a mistake, you can highlight and delete that section of your podcast by clicking on it and then pressing delete.

  • Once you have each section recorded, click on Photos on the right and drag and drop your photos to the podcast track. Then you will need to move and stretch the photo to fit the appropriate section of your podcast. (You can also drag and drop from a folder of pictures if you are not using iPhoto.)

  • To preview your podcast, click the little window in the Podcast Track. It will pop out and expand to a bigger window. Then click the play icon at the bottom.

  • Once you are finished with your podcast, you need to export it to a file that can be shared with others or uploaded to YouTube. Click Share in the toolbar and choose Export Podcast to Disk. In the next window, choose Spoken Podcast from the Audio Settings drop down menu. Click Export and and then save your podcast to the folder you are using for your project.

  • Congratulations! You have created a podcast. Your podcast can now be viewed in QuickTime Player or uploaded to YouTube.
