Join GEAR UP to Help Prepare for College and More!

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a U.S. Department of Education discretionary grant program. The program assists low-income and first generation students in obtaining a high school diploma and preparing for and succeeding in post-secondary education. In 2019, Governor Tony Evers designated the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Program (WEOP) as the sole state agency to administer the GEAR UP grant. GEAR UP provides numerous services including:

• academic, career, and financial counseling

• precollege programs

• scholarship and grant opportunities

• tutoring and mentoring

• workshops focusing on high school course selection, college preparedness, and financial aid resources
