I believe what you might be referring to is a sub that we did inactivate recently due to inactivity as a sub AND her substitute certification was not active through DESE. All subs must have an active sub certification or they cannot work. She was told she could renew her sub cert and sub, but she would still need to meet that requirement of 15 days per semester. She stated she would not be able to work the minimum required to be a sub and was not physically able to work in a classroom. Therefore, she was told we would submit her resignation as a sub and she would need to reapply as an Athletic/Activity Assistant which allows them to continue proctoring under that job title.
Each month as I receive a report on "those not paid or worked in the last six months" I personally reach out to the sub and inquire if they intend to meet the requirement in the next semester. If they can no longer sub, they will be asked to resign. If they have an additional job assignment (such as proctoring) we will tell them they need to apply under the "Athletic/Activity Assistant" piece. This job title then becomes their primary job assignment
