Join us on Thursday, February 18 at 12 PM ET for the fifth Regeneration session with Teju Adisa-Farrar, a geographer, writer, and poet focused on contemporary and historical Black geographies as they relate to the environment, urban ecologies and culture.
With continued gentrified displacement of low income and communities of color, it's imperative that we pivot the sustainability and environmental justice movement to start with urban areas, spaces that exist in connection with birds, trees, reservoirs, and more. Moderated by the Nature Lab’s Operations and Engagement Coordinator, Dora Mugerwa, this conversation will explore the environmental impact of gentrification and address a range of questions, including: How does gentrification extract lifeways and hinder a community's ability to regenerate? How does the mainstream "sustainable" community development initiatives displace? When we look at how we currently "grow" cities how do we reclaim that word and bring it back to a regenerative concept?
