Post date: Apr 21, 2011 4:31:10 PM

Daniel Simpson will give a one-day course in Helsinki on the R-INLA-project, May 3rd. (PLEASE NOTE: THIS WAS HELD ON 3/5/2011!)

Quote from a post:

``The Mathematical Biology Group (Dept. of Biosciences, Viikki, Helsinki) will organize a one-day course on advanced spatial statistics on May 3th. The teacher of the course is Dr. Daniel Simpson, a post doc from prof. Hvard Rue's group (Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim). Rue's group has developed the R-INLA software which is suited for the analysis of large spatial data sets (http://www.r-inla.org/). The aim of the course is to strengthen the use of modern statistical methods in biology (in particular spatial ecology), as well as to build contacts among mathematicians, statisticians and biologists in Finland. The course is aimed at all levels: advanced master students, PhD students, post docs and faculty. The abstract of the course is copied below (including the recommended background knowledge).

Schedule for Tuesday, May 3rd:

Session 1 at 10-12, Biocenter 3 (Viikinkaari 1), lecture hall 2402

Lunch at 12-13

Session 2 at 13-15, Biocenter 2, lecture hall 1015.

The course is free of cost (except lunch at own cost) but there is limited space for max. 25 participants.

Register to the course by replying to this email (Otso Ovaskainen@....). If the quota of 25 participants is exceeded, selection will be based on the order of registration and on an optional max. 3-sentence long motivational statement."
