Tohutohu: Directions and commands
Outcome: to engage students in directions in te reo Māori
Learning strands: Mātakitaki (observing) Kōrero (speaking) Whakaatu (enact) Whakarongo (listening)
Learning method: The Kaiako will give a series of commands and model the commands to the students in which they will respond. The lesson will look at the usage of “He”. The Kaiako will display a series of colours and the students will reply: e.g. “He pango” or “black”

Use these sentence structures and as many colour examples necessary to fulfil the outcomes of the lesson, e.g: He ______ tēnei tae; translate the colour you wish to use in the lesson into Māori and place the word between “He” and “tēnei”
Conclude the lesson with the song that uses the words to reinforce the language and its usage
