Outcome: to engage students in directions in te reo Māori
Learning strands: Mātakitaki (observing) Kōrero (speaking) Whakaatu (enact) Whakarongo (listening)
Learning method: The Kaiako will give a series of commands and model the commands to the students in which they will respond. The lesson will look at the usage of “He” or A. The Kaiako will display a series of animals and the students will reply: e.g. “He Kuri” or “a” dog

Use these sentence structures and as many animal examples necessary to fulfil the outcomes of the lesson, e.g: He ______ tēnei; translate the animal into Māori and place the word between “He” and “tēnei”
Conclude the lesson with the song that uses the words to reinforce the language and its usage, enacting of the animals is encouraged.
