RULES / EXPECTATIONS
[1] Be Respectful [2] Be Responsible [3] Be Accountable [4] Be a Self Learner [5] Be a Self Motivator
[6] Be Productive [7] Come to class with a positive Work Ethic / Attitude
PERFORMANCE BASED CURRICULUM
The student and parent need to understand that the class involves vigorous physical activity designed to improve the student’s fitness and knowledge of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The curriculum is performance-based and all students will need to demonstrate knowledge, competency and skill development in each of our curricular areas. Failure to do so will have a negative effect on their grade evaluation / progress report.
EMPHASIS ON FITNESS
The class will have a high emphasis on fitness. Developing and improving the students’ fitness levels will only happen with a progressive, systematic approach towards physical, mental and emotional development. Only by coming to class with an attitude towards improving will the student achieve these fitness challenges.
Improving one’s performance is essential in maintaining a successful grade throughout the whole year. This will take action / practice outside of class and is the responsibility of the student. It is highly recommended that the student develops and maintains a daily fitness program of exercises [i.e. push ups, sit ups, etc.], cardio [i.e. jog, bike, swim] and flexibility work. This “homework” will give them the best chance in being successful throughout the school year.
If there are medical conditions that may limit the students ability to perform the course work and the student needs to have a modified program, the evaluation process / grading scale will also be modified.
FITNESS TESTING WILL BE MODIFIED THIS YEAR DUE TO TRACK & POOL RECONSTRUCTION. [TBA]
Fitness Testing happens during each grading period. The COOPER’S FITNESS TEST, which is scored by age/gender [strength, strength-endurance and speed test]. The CONTINUOUS JOG TEST will test the student’s ability to jog a specific distance w/out stopping [endurance test].
A student who is missing class work and is unable to complete the course curriculum work, due to extended modifications because of injury, medical limitations [i.e. severe asthma, surgery, etc.] sickness, extended vacation, etc. will be evaluated on a modified grading scale [Pass/Fail]. This modified grading scale will stay in effect for the duration of the semester.
Any student may modify their daily exercises, run, etc., if they feel they are unable to perform the assigned tasks with proficiency. Modifying the course work is a temporary solution in order to work towards meeting the competent standards of class. The maximum amount of credit a student will receive while on modifications is a “C” or average grade, if all other coursework and tasks are completed to the best of their present ability.
THE SUCCESSFUL “A” STUDENT
The successful “A” student will be responsible, respectful and accountable, demonstrating a positive work ethic and a mature level of self-motivation and self-direction. The successful “A” student will demonstrate the ability to work independently, with other students, the ability to follow directions and will be prepared to perform each day in class. The successful “A” student will be non-apathetic, but energetic and ready to face the many challenges that are ahead of them. The successful “A” student will be able to demonstrate the physical skills, knowledge, leadership and teamwork necessary to participate in a High School based Physical Education Program.
