Course Objectives:
Throughout the course, students will be exposed to:
A variety of skills and activities that relate to Sports, Lifetime Fitness and Leisure Activities
The components necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle
Activities that promote an understanding of movement, kinetics, and the human body
A variety of rules and strategies of particular activities, games, and/or sports
Learning and practicing new skills/activities, and how that can promote self-confidence, fitness and good health
Class Expectations:
Students are expected to act in an appropriate and responsible manner, which will contribute to a positive learning environment. This includes:
Being on time to the assigned number/roll call area.
Being dressed in the proper P.E. uniform and athletic footwear
Purple shorts (Must pass the Fingertip Rule, shorts that are too short will cause you to receive a non-dress for the day)
Yoga/Exercise pants are also acceptable. They must be black or purple.
Gray shirt- must be marked with student’s LAST NAME, FIRST INITIAL
Athletic shoes with laces; laces must be tied
Crocs, open toed shoes and hoes without a back are not acceptable and will result in a non-dress
Sweatpants and sweatshirts are optional but must be worn over your PE uniform. Failure to wear your PE shorts/shirt underneath will result in a non-dress
Loaner clothes are available in the P.E. offices for .25 cents per item
Display good sportsmanship
Show respect for classmates, faculty and equipment at all times
Have an open mind, try new activities and meet new people
Students are not to use or have a cell phone in their possession during class. We will use Chromebooks in class and will let you know when you will need to bring them to class with you.
Students are not to use profanity or inappropriate gestures
Students are not to tease, intimidate or sexually harass others at any time. This behavior will be reported to an administrator immediately.
Locker Room Expectations
Students are to lock all their personal items in their own locker. DO NOT bring valuables to school. CELL PHONES AND CHROMEBOOKS SHOULD BE LOCKED IN YOUR SMALL LOCKER DURING CLASS.
Students are not to share lockers or combinations
The long locker is only to be used during the class period. Other students will be using it during the other class periods. Do not leave anything in the long locker after your class.
The SCHOOL IS NOT responsible for lost or stolen items
FOOD AND DRINKS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE LOCKER ROOMS.
Get dressed and get out. The locker rooms are not a social area.
Grading Policy
Grading will be based on all or part of the following:
Performance tasks- 50-80%
There will be points allotted per day for being dressed correctly, displaying good sportsmanship, and participating/performing for the entire duration of the class
Students who are not fully dressed (shorts, shirt and shoes) WILL NOT be allowed to participate and therefore will not receive any Points for the day. NON-DRESSES CANNOT BE MADE UP.
Excused absences require make-up work. One make-up for every one day absent. You must dress down for make-up P.E.
2. Notes-
All notes must be given to your teacher prior to roll call(Bring it to them in their office). Do not assume that because you have a note, you do not need to dress or participate. We will modify your activity.
PARENT NOTES- students are still expected to dress and will be given modified activity OR make up work will be assigned. Notes should be very specific-stating injury/illness and what the student can and cannot do. A parent note is only valid for 2 class periods
DOCTOR NOTES- a note from a doctor must specify a student’s restrictions. Students may be placed on a modified program. A doctor’s note is valid until the date specified on the note.
3. Homework-10-25%
Students can expect homework and classwork of various types- journals, graphs, projects, worksheets.
4. Written Tests and Quizzes- 10-20%
5. Physical Skills / Performance Testing-15-50%
Students can expect to take physical fitness tests and activity skills tests. Students will also be assessed by drill performance, visual improvement and demonstration of skill level during activity
***The student’s final grade will be determined by their percentage of possible points on the following scale:
90-100%-A
80-89%-B
70-79%-C
60-69%-D
59% and below-F
