About our Library

A short History of the library

Gilroy Catholic College was founded in 1980 with 12 staff members and 137 students enrolled in Year 7. The College now has some 131 staff members and approximately 1,355 students enrolled across Years 7 to 12.

The College has always had a dedicated library space for use by Staff and Students. Before the move to our beautiful current location, the Library was situated in the Upper G block building and was called the 'Kensell Resource Centre' named after Dr H G Kensell who was the College Board Chairman during the 1980's.

Our current library space was part of a new redevelopment on the College grounds that was completed in August 2016. The building which houses the Library is known as 'H Block' and also includes our Hospitality kitchen and several classrooms, including our computer lab, and study rooms.

Our IT specialists are also located in H8 within the Library space

On 25 May 2017, the library was officially blessed by The Most Reverend Vincent Long Van Nguyen and officially opened by Mr Greg Whitby and named The MacKillop Centre in honour of Saint Mary MacKillop.
