Tube Notcher

What is a Tube Notcher?

A tube notcher is a specialized attachment to a drill press. The assembly creates a stable platform that allows for circular tubing to be held in place and cut with hole saw bits. Using the hole saws to cut the tube (sometimes at prescribed angles) allows for flush fitting of tubes making for stronger and cleaner welds.

The drill press is that a motor spins a bit that is lowered onto the tube. Cutting fluid is sprayed on the bit and tube as they come into contact to reduce friction, maximize cutting and save wear and tear on the hole saw bits. These operations can be tailored for specific angle dimensions and tube diameters by changing hole saws.

How it works:

The tube notcher works by holding a metal tube pe

rpendicular to the drill press chuck so the hole saw bit can the precisely cut the tube without it concern for it moving around. This tool is much better than using other clamps as the cuts are accurate and repeatable.

Limitations:

With our notcher, we are limited in the size of tube we can cut and the angle at which we can cut the tube. The max size is 3 in and the max angle we can cut is 60 degrees

Safety precautions:

When operating the machine you will need to wear safety goggles and ear protection. Other things to check for before using the tool are seeing if the chuck is tight, making sure the clamp is tight, and making sure you have cutting fluid before cutting.
