Electric Screwdrivers

What is an Electric Screwdriver?

As the name would suggest, an electric screwdriver is a screwdriver with an electric motor.

Similar to a drill, though less versatile, an electric screwdriver can be used to quickly tighten down screws with little effort on the part of the user. If a project requires a lot of screws, an electric screwdriver can save time and hand strain.

While a drill can perform the same task, the motor of a drill is primarily designed to force drill bits through material. It is possible that a drill could provide too much power to a screw and damage the material being worked with. However an electric screwdriver is designed to provide the proper power and torque to the screw, decreasing the risk of damage.

There are two common designs for electric screwdrivers: drill shaped and straight.

The drill shaped functions almost exactly like a regular drill

The straight type usually has a pivot allowing the screwdriver to be used at odd angles
