Handheld Band Saw

What is a Handheld Band Saw?

The horizontal band saw works on a similar principle to the vertical band saw, but comes with a few advantages.

The horizontal band saw can cut larger pieces of material than would be possible with the vertical band saw. Additionally, the horizontal band saw cuts on the force of its own weight; once the material is clamped down, the blade is positioned over the material, the machine is started, the blade is lowered onto to the material, and then the force of gravity pulls the blade through. This means that you don't have to have your hands on the material while it is cutting, increasing safety.

The disadvantage of the horizontal band saw is its limited ability to cut curves. While with the vertical band saw the material can be guided through to form a variety of shapes, the horizontal band saw is limited to straight cuts.
