Honor Codes

PARISH HONOR CODE

The Parish tenets of WISDOM, HONOR & SERVICE drives both our honor code and our language that serves as the framework for ParishLeads. Further, our ParishLeads framework is buttressed by the ideas that embody: reflection, passion, relationships, and fortitude. EACH STUDENT PERSONALLY PLEDGES TO FOLLOW THE HONOR CODE IN ALL SCHOOL ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES, BOTH ON AND OFF CAMPUS.

Middle School Honor Code:

1. Middle School students are on their honor not to engage in lying, cheating, plagiarizing, and/or stealing.

2. Middle school students are expected to report Honor Code infractions to the MS Administration or any teacher. Students who witness an Honor Code offense are held responsible for not discussing the offense with other students.

3. Middle School students are expected to understand the Honor Code and what is expected of their behavior under the Honor Code. Parents can play an important part by supporting the Honor Code and talking regularly with students about its importance. Any questions about the Honor Code from students or parents should be directed to teachers, the Middle School Assistant Head for Student Life, or the Middle School Head.

4. Students are responsible for doing all work on their own both in class and outside of class UNLESS the teacher gives different directions. Students are especially reminded that working together on homework through e-mail or “chatrooms” on the computer is not acceptable unless specified by the teacher.

5. The Honor Code governs use of the Internet for school assignments. Copying documents or statements without properly citing sources shall be considered plagiarism and is a violation of the Honor Code.

Parish Middle School Pledge to be written on Assessments or Assignments: I pledge this work is my own and have neither given nor received aid on it.

Upper School Honor Code:

Honor code I acknowledge that in my desire to learn, I share a common experience with every Parish student, past, present, and future. I assume a profound moral responsibility by participating in this intellectual tradition. I affirm the powerful influence I have on the lives of my fellow students, and I pledge to contribute positively to their academic, artistic, social, and athletic success. I understand that success attained without virtue is in fact failure, and I pledge to hold myself to the highest standards of integrity. I pledge to conduct myself in every way that draws my mind to wisdom, my heart to courage, and my soul to God.

Honor Violations

An Honor Code violation is broadly defined as any action that would give a student an advantage over his/her peers on a graded assignment. The following is a list of actions which result in Honor Council hearings:

  • Plagiarism

  • Copying (from a fellow student, the Internet, an answer key)

  • Turning in work that is not one’s own

  • Using Internet translators for World Language assignments

  • Discussing and/or giving information about tests and quizzes

  • Disobeying rules and guidelines set by teachers to protect assessments .

**This list is by no means comprehensive. When in doubt about the integrity or expectations of an assignment, the safest place to go is to the teacher. A preemptive conversation is the best course of action when there is a question.
