There are millions of dollars available through scholarships and bursaries. How do you get a scholarship or financial assistance?
Check out the "Tips for Winning Scholarships" section and follow the suggestions found there.
Read over the information on OSAP - Ontario Student Assistance Program - as money is available through the government for students who qualify. (This information can be found at the bottom of this page).
Don't assume that you won't qualify for scholarships. Scholarships are given out for so many reasons - not just highest marks! Different scholarships look at different criteria - things like leadership, volunteer experience, diverse backgrounds, financial need, life experiences may be considered (or not!).
Know your strengths. Earning a scholarship is about knowing your strengths, doing the research, starting the process early and APPLYING!
Frequently refer back to this page as scholarships are added throughout the school year.
Review the "Other Scholarships and Financial Links" found on this page and make sure you are signed up on as many scholarship websites that are available.

TIPS FOR WINNING SCHOLARSHIPS
Register to various Scholarship Websites
Set up accounts and notifications on all searchable scholarship websites (many of these websites can be found in the section "Other Scholarship Links")
Some companies/insurance groups/union groups offer scholarships to the children of their employees.
Ask your parents and grandparents to check out the Human Resources department at their place of employment
Ask your parents about their insurance company and check out their website
Ask your parents and grandparents the name of their union (if they are in one) and check out their website
If you have a part-time job, ask or check out the website
Take note of the due date and time. My mindful of any stated submission time.
Read each scholarships requirements and ensure your application highlights how you meet each of the requirements
Ensure you are following the instructions (read carefully!)
Check word counts, due dates, signatures needed
Develop a cover letter and resume
Adapt these to each specific scholarship application
Keep track of community service hours
Ensure you know the name of the organization, address, phone number or email
Be able to link your tasks at each organization to the specific scholarship
Some scholarships require an essay
Review past English assignments to ensure you have proper essay formatting
Ask someone to review the essay to ensure proper grammar, spelling, etc
Be yourself and be honest! Don't just list your accomplishments, explain them and demonstrate why you are more qualifying and deserving
Keep a list of information that may be useful
list of honors, awards or contests that you have won
extracurricular activities
community involvement (not just what you used for community service hours)
leadership experience
instructor's assistance
camp counsellor
Extra-curricular activities where you have held a position of responsibility
employment experience
international travel
Contact references early
Ensure the references know the intent of the scholarship (ie is it for community involvement, being a strong student, financial need, etc)
Share the due date of the scholarship and ask that the letter be ready a few days before this date
Provide the references with a list of your achievements
Share where to send the completed reference
Provide a stamped, addressed envelope if the person is required to send the letter/information by Canada Post
Consider writing a thank you letter so they know their time was appreciated and will be more willing to write you another reference
Triple-check your application package to ensuer all documents are included and in the right order
Apply early and definitely ensure you are meeting deadlines

June 1st - OTIP Bursary Program The Ontario Teachers' Insurance Plan offers bursaries to the children of its members.

June 2nd - The Marion Dewar Scholarship Fund - The Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) offers scholarships for graduating immigrant or refugee students who demonstrate financial need planning to pursue a post-secondary education in the National Capital Region.

June 13th - Opterus Rebel with a Cause Awards Opterus is providing two scholarship awards for young women, between the ages of 18-26 and enrolled/will enrol at a Canadian post-secondary institution, who are pursuing a STEM or Arts educational path.

June 15th - Franco-Nevada Diversity Scholarship Open to students who identify as being a diverse person (i.e. woman, Indigenous person, member of a visible minority, LGBTQ+, and/or person with a disability) who are enrolled in a degree course in disciplines related to the mining industry.
June 16th - The Aristotle: a high school philosophy essay contest (University of Toronto, Ontario Philosophy Teachers' Association) Anyone enrolled in a Canadian high school at or below the grade 12 level may participate. June 30th - MAE Indigenous Education Fund - For self-identifying Indigenous students studying full-time in a STEM field at any post-secondary school in Canada.
June 30th - Shim Law Scholarship For students entering any program. Essay on a law topic required.
June 30th - FWIO (Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario) Provincial Scholarship - Awarded based on academic achievement. Essay and reference letters required.
June 30th - Heritage Club Scholarship Program Applicants must be children/grand-children of active members of the Heritage Club; with an average of 75% in their final year of secondary school. Criteria: scholastic ability, character & leadership qualities at school & in the community
June 30th - Charles Labatiuk Scholarship Any student entering or continuing their studies at an accredited college or university in Canada in the interdisciplinary study of natural environmental systems may apply. Students enrolled in studies focusing on ecosystems, how they operate, and their symbiotic relationship with people are encouraged to apply.
June 30th - Canadian Airborne Forces Association Scholarship Programme (CAFA and ARAC) Applicant must have a CAFA or ARAC affiliation; have been accepted at a post-secondary institution; have demonstrated academic aptitude
June 30th - CU Succeed Youth Bursary Program (Ontario Credit Union Foundation - OCUF) Applicant (or their parent) must belong to an OCUF credit union; grades of 65% or higher; pursuing a college diploma, undergraduate degree, or red seal; demonstrate community involvement; demonstrate financial need
June 30th - Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers (COYF) Memorial Scholarship Open to any individual in Canada who is pursuing post secondary education leading to a diploma or degree in agriculture. Essay required
June 30th - Hugh Pomeroy Scholarship Fund (Fondation Ski Canada Foundation) Open to members of National Ski Programs, in any member discipline of the Canadian Snowsports Association. Applicant has been a member of the “National Team” for at least one year; wishes to further their education, would be unable do so without assistance from this Scholarship Fund
June 30th - Russell Alexander Law Scholarship Students must have an average of 80% or higher and an interest in studying and joining the legal industry.
June 30th - Ben Sandison Memorial Scholarship Three scholarships available - one for students pursuing a program in English or Writing, one for students accepted to a fitness or related program and one for students pursuing music or a related program
June 30th - Women Empowerment Foundation Scholarship Female students who have shown a commitment to academics, community service and participation in extracurricular activities. Resume, essay and references required.
June 3oth - Black Girl Hockey Club Scholarship Program Applicants must be registered on a competitive hockey team
June 30th - HerbaLand Naturals Scholarship Applicants should have the passion and persistence to live a sustainable lifestyle.
June 30th - The Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency Scholarship The Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency established a scholarship to encourage and support students pursuing post-secondary studies in the field of agriculture, agricultural research, or with an agricultural background pursuing studies in marketing.
June 30th - Ontario Horticultural Trades Foundation Scholarships Applicants need to be registered in an approved program related to horticulture.
June 30th - Four Directions Scholarship (Ontario Native Education Counselling Association - ONECA) Applicants must be students of aboriginal ancestry graduating from an ON high school; proceeding to post-secondary education; 75% average in graduating year; involved in community &/or school; demonstrate leadership qualities, dedication, good attendance

Education Foundation of Ottawa - The Education Foundation of Ottawa’s Active Living and Opportunity fund has many awards and bursaries that they administer on behalf of various families and individuals.
Canadian Hospitality Foundation - For students wishing to pursue a career in the hospitality, food service and tourism industry. Applications are available through each post-secondary institute's awards offices
Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation - The OJCF offers several scholarship opportunities for both Jewish and non-Jewish graduating students.
RBC Royal Scholarships - RBC Royal Bank is offers several scholarships to students who will be attending college or university in the fall.
TELUS Student Bursary provides financial assistance to young people across the country who are experiencing financial need and who are committed to giving back in their local communities through a social impact initiative.
EDC Student Scholarships awards up to 20 scholarships a year to students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
Canadian Hero Fund Children's Scholarship Applicants must be sons or daughters of Canadian Forces members, fallen in the service of Canada, pursing their 1st degree, diploma, or trade school certification

OSAP - ONTARIO STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
OSAP - Ontario Student Assistance Program
The Ontario Student Assistance Program is a financial program that can help pay for college or university. OSAP offers funding through grants and loans.
Grants are money that you do NOT have to pay back
A loan will need to be repaid once you are finished your program.
When you apply for OSAP it automatically considers you for both grants and loans.
Some Info:
Federal Grants exist for low and middle income families
Grants exist for students with permanent disabilities
Students can choose to receive a grant portion only
There is a link to OSAP via OCAS and OUAC
Applications are about 15 minutes to complete but you must have access to your parent's income taxes
There is an OSAP information module that you must complete before making the application (it takes about 15 minutes as well)
OSAP funds will be redirected to institutions to pay educational costs
Students can use the OSAP Aid Estimator to get an estimate of the grant or loan they could expect to receive
OSAP - Eligibility Requirements
Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
Ontario residency requirements:
Have always lived in Ontario, or
Have lived 12 consecutive months in Ontario without studying full-time at the postsecondary level
Enroll in an OSAP-approved program
Take at least 60% of a full-course load or 40% for a student with a permanent disability.
Maintain satisfactory academic progress
Pass a credit check

Sept 15th (2025) - Go Skills Scholarship Available to any female student who wants to start her own business.
