Scholarships

There are millions of dollars available through scholarships and bursaries. 

    - Colleges and universities offer scholarships and bursaries specific to their institutions so be sure to check the websites of any schools to which you are applying. 

    - Most major banks offer a variety of scholarships. (see the RBC example below)

    - The links below are just some of the available scholarships that students can access. 

    - Remember to start your search soon as some scholarships have early application deadlines.

Scholarships Canada - This website gives a comprehensive listing of scholarships offered across the nation. Users are able to create a profile and be matched to appropriate scholarships.

School and Community Based Awards and Scholarships - Commencement Awards are given by LDH to deserving students. Information about these awards will be put forth at a future assembly. 

Education Foundation of OttawaThe Education Foundation of Ottawa’s Active Living and Opportunity fund opens up a world of possibilities for students by administering awards and bursaries on behalf of families and individuals. 

EDC Youth Education Program Scholarships - Export Development Canada (EDC) is a crown corporation that offers 20 $5000 scholarships each year to international business post-secondary students and 7 scholarships to students representing a diversity of backgrounds. 

Loran Scholarship -  Applications for this scholarship is now closed. This scholarship no longer requires school sponsorship so students may apply directly through their website. Be sure to begin your application early and speak to your possible references well ahead of the deadline.  The application deadline was October 11, 2023 .

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program - Given to students who demonstrate the ideals of Terry Fox - true humanitarians, individuals who are compassionate and altruistic in their intention to improve the lives of others, and human welfare overall. 

Schulich Builders - This scholarship offers 100 scholarships to students entering particular skilled trades programs at participating colleges. LDH is allowed to nominate 5 students for this award. If you are entering the skilled trades and are interested in being nominated by LDH, please contact Mrs. Yeaton in the Student Services office by March 1st, 2024.

Schulich Leader Scholarships - This award is given to promising students to help them pursue their dreams in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. High schools are allowed to nominate one student, please see Mrs. Yeaton in the Student Services office if interested in being considered for nomination.  The deadline to apply for nomination is Friday, January 19, 2024.

OFSAA Scholarships - The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) offers two scholarships that recognize student-athletes moving on to post-secondary education in Canada, who are successful academically, involved in their school and community, demonstrate leadership qualities, and have a financial need. 

The Bill 7 Award - This award grants scholarships to LGBTQ+ students with demonstrated financial need after accessing available financial support and who are, or will be, pursuing their first program of post-secondary at an Ontario educational institution. Applications available in April. 

Canadian Hospitality Foundation - The Canadian Hospitality Foundation is very proud to offer approximately $200,000 in scholarships for students wishing to pursue a career in the hospitality, food service and tourism industry across Canada annually.  

Canadian Order of AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope Scholarship - The Canadian Order of AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope offers scholarships to students of Greek descent.  

OSSTF Family Bursaries - The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation is offering bursaries to children of OSSTF members.  College or university bound or apprenticeship students whose parents work in a public high school in Ontario may be eligible to apply.  

OTIP Bursaries - The Ontario Teachers' Insurance Plan offers bursaries to the children of its members. 

Retail as a Career Scholarship Program - The Canadian Retail Institute offers scholarships to students who are pursuing a retail or business-related program, and are working at least part-time in retail.  

Zonta Club of Ottawa - The Zonta Club of Ottawa invites women students in their last year of high school to apply for two annual awards 

Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation - The OJCF offers several scholarship opportunities for both Jewish and non-Jewish graduating students.

RBC Royal Scholarships - RBC Royal Bank is offers several scholarships to students who will be attending college or university in the fall.  

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership - TD Canada Trust offers scholarships based on a student's leadership in their community. 

Canerector Foundation Scholarship in the Skilled Trades - Algonquin college offers  the Canerector Foundation Scholarship in the Skilled Trades to students entering level 1 programs in manufacturing, transportation and construction. This is not just a monetary award, rather a mentoring program to give the student the resources and guidance necessary for achieving excellence in education and optimal success in building a lifelong career in the skilled trades. 

The Marion Dewar Scholarship Fund - The Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) offers scholarships for graduating immigrant or refugee students who demonstrate financial need planning to pursue a post-secondary education in the National Capital Region. 

The Lynch-Getty Global Student Award - The Ottawa-Carleton Education Network (OCENET) offers scholarships to students who "have demonstrated leadership in local projects that involved cross-cultural initiatives and which helped to effect a better understanding of other cultures".

Remax Quest for Excellence Scholarship Program - a cash scholarship that recognizes students for their ongoing community contributions and pursuit of leadership. Essay required. Application deadline is March 13, 2024.


Education Foundation of Ottawa - S.T.E.M. Financial Award - The Education Foundation of Ottawa (EFO), in partnership with Stantec, the Ottawa Senators and the Senators Community Foundation, is offering an award for graduating students looking to pursue STEM careers. This award will provide opportunities for financial aid to students interested in STEM-based post-secondary studies who are in historically underrepresented groups such as racialized individuals, Indigenous peoples, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, women, and persons with disabilities. Those from military families, those who face economic barriers in pursuing post-secondary (college or university) education, and those who are the first family members to attend post-secondary studies will also be considered.  Students are asked to provide an OCDSB staff member as one of their references. Application deadline is Friday, February 16th, 2024. 

Adam Mills Real Estate Team Bursary - this bursary is awarded to a student who best demonstrates entrepreneurial fortitude in their community. $1500 will be awarded to a qualifying student at LDHSS. To be eligible, students must be in their graduating year and be pursuing a program at a college, trade school or university for September 2024. To apply, students must create a 1-2 minute video demonstrating how they have pursued entrepreneurial goals and achieved success. The video will not be measured on quality of editing, videography or equipment, but on content presented. Interested students should contact Mrs. Yeaton in Student Services for additional information. Application deadline is May 15, 2024 @ 5:00 pm. 

TELUS Student Bursary provides financial assistance to young people across the country who are experiencing financial need and who are committed to giving back in their local communities through a social impact initiative. Bursaries, valued between $3,000 - $5,000, can be put toward tuition fees at any post-secondary institution in Canada. Application deadline is April 24, 2024.
