Part Time Faculty
- Adjuncts -
Please see the details below about Part Time Faculty (adjunct - code 112) appointments. It is our goal to onboard all Adjuncts BEFORE their official start date to ensure IT access and timely paychecks. Please see below for a reference guide and important guidelines
Appointment Overview
Part time faculty (adjuncts) are primarily appointed as Instructors of Record
Adjunct appointments follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between NYU and Local 7902
Per the CBA, adjunct Instructors of Record are paid per "Contact Hour" with an additional "Administrative Service Payment (ASP)", depending on the number of credits for the course.
Compensation rates are available in OASIS (internal link). If there are plans to appoint a non-student adjunct for a higher rate, please submit a justification along with a copy of the person’s CV/resume to A&S Payroll in advance for review
ASP amounts auto-populate in OASIS in accordance with the CBA
Additional compensation is provided as an “Other Academic Duty” for completing OEO 150: NYU Sexual Harassment Prevention Training. These additional compensation payments are managed by A&S Payroll
Payments for other duty types, for example appointments for tutoring, thesis advising, or panel participants, should be reviewed in advance with A&S Payroll
A&S Academic Appointments provides HR management for adjuncts and oversees additional types of adjunct transactions, such as Article X letters, the Adjunct Professional Development Fund, & the Adjunct Technology Fund
Planning & Payments
To plan course staffing needs for each semester, we use OASIS (Arts & Science Information System)
Specifically, Departments first enter the course staffing information (instructor & course name, etc) into NYU CourseLeaf (CLSS) and then compensation amounts for these appointments are separately entered in OASIS
Once the compensation data is entered, we utilize the following process to review and finalize the payroll appointments
See also course staffing flowchart
Deadlines for each semester/term are emailed directly to Departments and posted to our Announcements page.
Outside of OASIS, we utilize PDF forms submitted into our Google Form to process the following appointment types:
New adjunct hires (onboarding flowchart)
Changes to the planned OASIS data, such as cancellations or additional teaching assignments
Ad hoc payments for other duty types, such as tutoring or thesis advising
Processing Details
Initial Appointment Process
Adjunct course staffing and hiring decisions are managed by each Department
Compensation amounts must follow the 7902 CBA
Any compensation amount above the CBA minimum rates must be pre-approved by A&S Payroll
OASIS vs. Google Form
Appointments are entered into OASIS. Only those appointments that are either confirmed after the deadline OR that are New Hires (i.e. no record in PeopleSync) require appointment paperwork submitted into the Google Form. Appointments entered into OASIS by the deadline and subsequently approved are processed in bulk by A&S Payroll
Ad hoc payments for other duty types, such as tutoring or thesis advising, are also submitted via the Google Form
Paperwork (PDFs) Submitted into Google Form
Letter of Appointment:
Reappointment letters can be generated via OASIS via our mail merge process
New Hire letters must be generated manually
Do NOT submit paperwork into the Google Form if the appointment was previously confirmed via the bulk review process. This can result in duplicate payments
