Rudolph Joseph Nowell (1905-1970), was born on December 17, 1905 in Poznan, Poland. His family surname was originally Nowosielska.
He lived with his mother Catherine Nowosielska at 51 Chadwick Avenue, Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. He graduated from college and worked as an accountant on Wall Street, New York and sold stamps part time from his mother's house. Soon after graduating college he decided to make stamp dealing his full time career circa 1926.
