Reuben William Ahlmann (1896–1969), was born on 25 September 1896, in Norfolk, Madison, Nebraska, son of William Carl Adam Ahlmann (1873-1949), and Jennie Louise Lobnow Ahlmann (1877-1958)
In 1913, after graduating from Norfolk High School, Norfolk, Nebraska, Ahlmann became a full time stamp and coin dealer. he began to advertise in Everybody's Philatelist. Shortly afterwards, he bought out became the successor to Norfolk Stamp & Coin Co.
In 1914, he began to advertise in The New England Philatelist.

After marriage his career changed to the study of pharmacy.
In 1919, he married Vivien Belle Zulauf (1898-1970), on 15 January 1919, in Norfolk, Madison, Nebraska. He became a druggust working in Bassett, Rock County, Nebraska.
