5/6 OPUS Audition Info

2024 OPUS Honor Choir Music has been made available to the students who want to audition.

OPUS HONOR CHOIR GOALS

AUDITION PROCESS and INFORMATION

Students interested in auditioning for OPUS will have lessons in the spring and the fall to prepare the music with Mrs. Trulson.  Students will be expected to practice at home as well.

Each student will be recorded singing America and a section from two of the concert pieces.  I can only submit 12 recordings from our school.  If your student spends time each week practicing this music, they will have a better chance in the fall when we record.  Schools from all over Iowa can submit recordings for this, so it is VERY tough to get into.  But, the process of learning this music will make your student a better musician, whether or not they make OPUS.

Students who are accepted into OPUS will get to spend a day in November (November 21, 2024) on the ISU campus in Ames singing all day to prepare for a concert with the large OPUS honor choir.  It is quite an honor to be chosen.

Students who audition are eligible to be selected for our NCICDA district 5/6 honor choir held in February.  I can take 7-8 kids from North Butler for that honor choir and will give priority to the best students from our OPUS auditionees.

Below, you will find a YouTube Playlist and practice recordings.  Students interested in OPUS will be given sheet music to look at as well.

All students need to prepare America and the two excerpts for their voicing.

As you are practicing, don't just sing notes, but work to sing each exercise or song musically; with dynamics and breathing in proper places.

Mrs. Trulson should let your student know which voicing to practice.
