Hi everyone,
Our orchestra program has been emphasizing sight reading as a way to improve each orchestra student's music literacy.
We want to encourage everyone to have good music fundamentals. Great musicianship includes rhythm and counting accuracy, pitch
accuracy, and the ability to read and interpret music notation. Great musicianship also includes great posture, tone, articulation (style of playing) and dynamics. This second group of skills can pose a challenge to achieve without music literacy.
Students in grades 7-12 all have access to a program (starting in winter 2019) called sight reading factory, and they're getting assignments.
This program allows students to practice at anytime, and at any level, and also submit work to Mr. Muise within the program. Each student
should be registered in their class with the emailed code. (Please keep in mind that Mr. Muise uses email, Google Classroom and Sight Reading factory to assign and collect classwork).
I have made 2 short YouTube videos on rhythm and key signature accuracy. These should be very helpful for the grade 7-12 students that are using sight reading factory, and could also be a helpful lesson or review for any student in our orchestra program.
Here are some other videos that I recommend you check out (and seek out other videos from these YouTubers, or elsewhere)
