Lime water forming a white precipitate in the presence of excess carbon dioxide.
Limewater turns chalky / White precipitate (Calcium Carbonate) is formed after a minute of exhaling into limewater as shown by Le Xing.
Do you know?
If you continue to exhale into limewater (which has already turned chalky) for another minute or so, the white precipitate will disappear and the solution will turn clear again.
This is due to calcium carbonate (insoluble in water) becoming calcium hydrogen carbonate (soluble in water).
