Dual Credit

Earn College Credit at NHS

Dual credit is the term given to courses in which high school students have the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously.

Students sign up and are placed in a dual credit course with their school counselor. After the class starts each semester it is the students responsibility to register with the college to earn the college credit. They are aided by their teacher and our dual credit assistant with time in class to register, email reminders both from our dual credit assistant, the college who is granting the credits, and passes to come to the school counseling office for assistance. If the student is unable to register (because they choose not to OR do not meet pre-reqs for the course) for the college portion of the class they will still be eligible to earn the high school credit.

When a student earns college credit their High School transcript will display a CC behind the course title. You can use the list below to see what the college class was called, how many credits were earned, and what college granted the credits. If you did NOT earn the college credit in the course the CC is removed.

Dual Credit Course Offerings

Dual Credit Courses

NHS offers several dual credit classes. This means that students earn high school credit and college credit simultaneously. Students must complete an application and register with the offering college to receive Dual Credit.

Dual credit classes are offered through Indiana University, or Ivy Tech Community College. Dual credit courses are listed in the Indiana Core Transfer Library and should transfer to various Indiana colleges and universities, including IUPUI, Ball State, IU, Purdue, etc. The final decision as to whether a college or university will accept dual credits is made by the Admissions Office of each institution.

Transferring Dual Credit Course work as a Senior

Please remember that your high school will not transfer the college credits to the university or college students will be attending in the fall.

Students need to send a transcript from the granting college (IU or Ivy Tech) directly to the school that students will actually be attending in the fall or they will not allow the credits to be awarded.
