The "Gift of the Nile" was its annual flooding which provided dark silt for farming. This ancient civilization was protected from invasion for many centuries by its surrounding harsh deserts. Egyptians had some interesting customs: from their pharaohs, to their stately pyramids, to their death rituals - which included a process called "mummification", to their written language (hieroglyphics).
