THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION
To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, and community.
To raise the standards of home life.
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
To bring into closer relations the home and the school that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the training of the child.
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for every child the highest advantage in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.
Lockwood P.T.A. Names President [1950]
Mrs. W.G. Hopwood resigned as president of the Lockwood Parent -Teacher association at a meeting Friday night at Central school and Olin Forrester, vice president succeeded her as president.
Mrs. R.A. Wright was elected vice president and Mrs. Garnet Rogina, secretary-treasurer, was appointed delegate to the rural council meeting.
Also elected at the meeting Friday was a program committee headed by Mrs. Hopwood. She will be assisted by Mrs. Verona Borgen, Mrs. Jean Eller, Mrs Clifford Macheledt and Mrs Louis Meaker, all Central school teachers.
Other officers of the Lockwood PTA. are R.A. Wright, publicity chairman; R.I. Kinsey, playground chairman, and Mrs. P.M. Lile, parliamentarian. Members of the organization decided to change the meeting date of the group from the first Friday to the first Saturday of each month. A report on the possibility of purchasing a merry-go-round for the primary children at Central with funds collected for that purpose last spring was made to the organization. Currently, the PTA learn, the designed equipment is not available. Members of the organization decided that if it continues to be impossible to get the merry-go-round, the order will be changed to such playground equipment as is available.
P.T.A. Installs New Officers [1952]
Delegates to the district for PTA convention Saturday morning installed newly elected officers at special ceremonies at Lockwood School. The election was held Friday afternoon and Mrs. W. S. Hartley officiated at the installation Saturday. Mrs. Marguerite Scheid of Chicago, field service consultant for PTA, was the main speaker at the morning session where Mrs. Ross Crowe was installed as president of the district. Others installed were Mrs. B. Bertelsen, first vice-president ; Mrs. Robert Veatch, second vice-president; Mrs. Charles Agnew of Hardin, secretary; Mrs E. E. Milam of Huntley, treasurer.
A banquet was held at the Commercial Club Friday night with Mrs. Bertelsen serving as toastmistress. Mrs. Devitt led several children in electric guitar selections, Paul Hartley played piano numbers, and Mrs. George Mitchell was presented a reading entitled “Was it murder?”
Mrs. Scheid talked on ”The Art of Disagreement” Friday night. Also Friday afternoon, Mrs. Mary Ann Crawford of Laurel, State president, talked on PTA Publications. Oliver Peterson, EMCOE Professor, spoke on PTA scholarships and told what they meant to the advancement of teacher training. He brought with him Jim Phillips of Laurel, this year's recipient at Eastern of a PTA scholarship. At an awards luncheon Saturday noon at the Lockwood Evangelical Brethren Church PTA units of the district were given annual ratings. Mrs. W. N. Scott of Billings presided at the noon meeting. A school of instruction, designed to promote leadership in carrying out parent-teacher principles and policies, was conducted Saturday afternoon prior to adjournment of the convention.
Judges Prepare for School Election [1950]

Doctor Tells Program Need [1951?]
A talk on “Do We Need a Health Program, Why, and How Can We Obtain It?” Was given by Dr. Leland G. Russell at a meeting of the Lockwood Parent-Teacher Association at the schoolhouse Monday night. Dr. Russell explained the need for a new health program.
Public Health Service should be a program project in Yellowstone County and Billings to the extent of establishing a full-time Public Health officer, Dr. Russell said. He said that the Yellowstone Valley Medical association has been in favor of such action since 1949. “Public health programs are not in any sense a trend in the direction of federal or socialized medicine.” Dr. Russell added.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Spencer were appointed as delegates to attend the rural PTA council meeting scheduled at the Pioneer School at 8 p.m. April 25, and Mrs. P. M. Lile, Mrs. Marvin Klampe and Mrs. R. A. Wright were named to the auditing committee. Mr. Klampe said a public meeting for patrons of School District No.26 would be held at Lockwood school at 8 p.m. Thursday to discuss the school building program for the district for the coming year. He asked all interested persons to attend.
The slating of a card party in the school gymnasium at 8 p.m. Saturday was announced by Mrs. Lile, Budget Finance committee chairman. The attendance prize was won by Margaret Mackeledt’s first grade room. Music was by the Ten Workers the school advanced symphonette band, under direction of Mrs. Fred Beckert, a teacher, and a company by Mrs. Darrell Green.
The Rev. Kirk M. Dewey [1951?]
Will be a member of a panel which will discuss juvenile delinquency at the Lockwood PTA meeting at 8 p.m. Monday at the school, it was announced Sunday. Other members of the panel will be Charles Maness, police chief; Carl B. Peters, legislative candidate, and Doctor R. N. Lowe, Eastern Montana College faculty member who will be moderator.
Lockwood parent-teacher group names committee [March, 1952]
Mrs. John Strom, Mrs. L. L. McFarland and mrs. Ben Fulton were named to the nominating committee at a meeting of the Lockwood parent-teacher association Monday night. Eugene Pandayi-Gulyas spoke on world understanding and men's chorus of Eastern Montana College of Education presented several selections. Les Heins gave accordion selections. Attendance prize was awarded to Miss Virginia Green’s fifth-year room.
Lockwood PTA elects officers [March 1952]
Mrs. William Hopwood was elected president of the Lockwood PTA at a meeting of the association Monday night after school. Other officers named where Mrs. Ben Spencer, first vice president; Marvin Klampe, second vice president; Mrs. Galen Naylor, secretary; Jake Rudolph
and V. J. Tensis sergeant-at-arms, Mrs. Harold Aunt Lundby, parliamentarian, and P.M. Lile, budget and finance chairman
Name two committee chairmanships were Mrs. Charles Plough, recreation; Spencer, playgrounds; Mrs. Ben Fulton, publicity; Mrs. Nick Lorang, magazine; Mrs. Lile, historian. Teachers were named as a membership committee. Graduation exercises at the school will be held at 2 p.m. May 21. Lincoln J. Adkins, registrar at eastern Montana College of Education will be the speaker. The annual school picnic will be held May eighteen, it was announced.
Panel Views Juvenile Delinquency at Lockwood PTA meeting [1951?]
A panel composed of Billings Chief of Police Jack Maness, County attorney Arnold Burger, Carl Peters member of the Montana legislature, the Reverend Kirk Dewey and Dr. Raymond Lowe discussed juvenile delinquency at a meeting of the Lockwood parent teacher association Monday night at the school.
A number of proposed resolutions intended for presentation at the district PTA convention at the school October 17-18 were voted upon but tabulation of results was not completed Monday night. Mrs. Harold Lundby, D. G. Sullinger, Mrs. Ben Spencer, Mrs Galen Naylor and Mrs. Mary Beckert were named delegates to the district meeting. Bill Nicholson gave guitar selections.
